| Kingston, Canada |
Kingston, Ontario, the Limestone City, is one of the most beautiful and historic cities in Canada. With over 100 000 people in the Greater Kingston Area we have all the comforts and services of larger cities with a small-town feel.
The city is placed at the mouth of the Cataraqui river, where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence. Originally Fort Frontenac, the town was a strategic military settlement for the French, and then for the English. This military legacy has left us with Fort Henry and four Martello towers, limestone batteries that protected the city and the crucial St. Lawrence river from American attack.
Kingston today is a much more peaceful place. Each summer the city hosts CORK, the largest freshwater sailing regatta in North America, and also numerous music, theatre and buskers festivals.
Our town is home to three post - secondary institutions, St. Lawrence College, the Royal Military College of Canada and the world renowned Queens University. The student population keeps Kingston thriving all year round.
All in all, summer or winter, Kingston is a beautiful place to visit and a great place to live.
Housing
With the large student population, housing is relatively inexpensive and easy to find. A room in a student house downtown can be as little as $225 per month during the school year and summer sublets can be found for even less. If you prefer something a little more luxurious, two bedroom apartments can be had for as low as $500 to $550 per month.
Kingston also has the usual variety of bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels and housekeeping accommodations.
We will always be more than happy to assist you in search of a place to stay during your training.
Transportation
Kingston has an excellent public transportation system. The bus leaves you only a short walk from the airport or we can pick you up at the last stop.
O F F is currently looking into the possibility of a student shuttle service from downtown which will allow us to pick you up at home and deliver you directly to the school.
For those who prefer to use man powered means of transportation, the airport is about 5 miles from downtown, an easy bicycle ride.
